2005 Kanne

The Kanne bridge crosses the Albert Canal near Kanne. To enable the widening of the canal, the old arch bridge was to be replaced by a longer bridge. Being the first suspension bridge built in Belgium since 1960’s, the owner paid a lot of attention to durability.
Freyssinet has proposed to use the Cohestrand system for the main cables. These 75 strands cables are the first industrial scale application of the Cohestrand on a suspension bridge.

Freyssinet has developed during the late 1990’s the Cohestrand® to enable a continuous corrosion protection throughout the hangers collars of suspension bridges. This corrosion protection shall be capable of resisting longitudinal clamping forces, i.e. shall be fully bond on the steel tensile element.
The steel part of the new bridge has a main span of 96.2 m with two side spans of 14.8 m. With a total width of 22.0 m, it carries two lanes of traffic between the suspension planes and two cycling/pedestrian lanes outside the suspension planes.
The suspension is carried by two pylons, each consisting of two cylindrical masts.
The main cables, the hangers and the back stays were completely installed and stressed in March 2005. The bridge is due to open to traffic late 2005.

2003 Viaducten Herve, Battice, José, Ruyff

Construction of 4 viaducts

The longest of the four viaduct for the high speed line will have 1.300 meter length ; the three others (José, Herve and Ruyff) are between 250 and 470 meter long. They will cross valleys with heights varying from 8 to 30 meter.

The select method of construction combines the intensive use of precast concrete element and prestressing with Freyssinet cables and Macalloy bars. These precast element are : piles, head of piles, hyperstatic and isostatic beams and deck plates. After the realization of the foundations, a foundation unit is cast in place.

Inclined precast piles are installed by crane and then heads units. These sets are post-tensioning cables : 16 cables 19C15 per set.

Between these sets, U shape precast beams are installed. Some of them will be made hyperstatic. On the 2 main beams, precast deck slabs will be bonded by cables 13C15.

In total, 1.200 tons of cables and 650 bars will be delivered and installed by Freyssinet Belgium.
